Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a process that begins with a person’s desire to seek psychological help, change or consult on any issue. In the therapy sessions that are initiated, a personal relationship based on trust and confidentiality is established between the client and the psychologist. This relationship is also called a therapeutic relationship. In the first meeting, the topics that the client has chosen as targets just before applying are discussed, the expert’s opinion is obtained and sessions are initiated in which the necessary work is done to achieve the discussed/revised targets.
It is important that the expectations of the clients and the goals presented by the expert for the client match. These goals are discussed from the first session onwards, and those that are reasonable are determined. Those that are unrealistic are decided on. Sessions last an average of 45 minutes, but the duration of meetings with the psychologist can sometimes be 60-65 minutes. (See Psychologist Session Duration) The frequency of the meetings is determined by a joint decision between the client and the expert. In some cases, 2-3 meetings are held per week, while in other cases, meetings may be held once a month or once every 2-3 months. The reason why the frequency of meetings is on such a wide spectrum is that it depends on the person’s specific and individual characteristics (resistance to change, budget, etc.).
In some cases, sufficient progress may not be achieved with the specialist you start the interview with. In some cases, the subject of the client’s complaint may not match the psychologist’s area of expertise. In this case, the sessions are terminated by mutual agreement and the client is referred to another specialist. For this reason, among the team members are “family counselors”, “sexual therapists” and people who are experts in their fields for situations such as “trauma”.
Our Quality Policy
Experts who provide individual psychotherapy support are selected from experienced, postgraduate or preferably doctoral graduates and have completed the supervision phase. At the same time, experts are encouraged to receive training to develop their therapy skills in sub-fields of psychology and their competence and proficiency are supported through peer supervision.
During the interviews, full compliance with ethical rules (TPD Ethics Regulation) and confidentiality principles is ensured. Individual differences, sensitivities and characteristics do not affect the content of the interviews and the professional approach.
